Accurate and vigilant medication calculations are imperative to help prevent medication errors and sentinel events. As a result, many nursing students often express feelings of stress and anxiety when performing drug calculations. The medication calculation review provides students with a variety of calculation techniques that are fun and easy to learn.

In this review, a step-by-step process is included in each math problem so that students can become more confident in dosage calculations using all of the 3 methods: formula, dimensional analysis, ratio and proportion. Pre and post assessment exams are used to evaluate each student’s understanding and critical thinking skills needed to comprehend the major subject matters.

This section provides learners with a comprehensive overview of pharmacology with an emphasis placed on commonly used medications used to treat medical and psychological diseases. The major topics of discussion include the following:

  • Renal
  • Autoimmune
  • Neurological

Critical thinking is an essential skill that allows the individual to make rational decisions. It is an essential component that is threaded throughout the nursing process which includes synthesizing, analyzing, applying, and evaluating evidence based knowledge. Individuals enrolled in this section will benefit from the learning strategies that will assist with effective reasoning of simple to complex nursing concepts. The knowledge gained from these sessions will also benefit the prudent learner with test taking and effective communication skills.
